TASK: Execute an unknown distance buddy team run on a marked course. 

CONDITIONS: During daylight hours, given a marked course, while wearing the BRC uniform minus OCP Top, TAPs, bib, and carrying an inert M4.

STANDARDS: Complete the course with all equipment as a team. Each team member must carry his own equipment. Competitors will carry their weapons in their hands however they choose. The weapon cannot be placed on or supported by equipment. Team ranking will be determined by time.

TASK: Conduct a HELOCAST insertion with a properly constructed poncho raft.

CONDITIONS: Conducted during daylight hours in the waterborne uniform consisting of the BRC uniform (minus camelback) with a riggers belt, blouse tucked into beltline, and personal flotation device. Poncho raft will be constructed with serviceable ponchos, 2 inert weapons, 2 MOLLE rucks, poncho raft construction material, and a UH-60 aircraft with appropriate crew organization for HELOCAST.

STANDARDS: The Competitor Teams will have 10 minutes to complete raft construction IAWTC 3-34.85. Upon completion of the Poncho Raft construction the teams will load the UH-60 helicopter for untimed movement to Victory Pond and exit the aircraft at the designated / marked point IAW the 4th Ranger Training Battalion Cast Operations SOP. Once the team exits the aircraft they will move to the designated pond-exit (where the time will stop). Secure all equipment and move to the designated finish point. Scoring is TIME-BASED.

STANDARDS: Engage all targets with the allotted ammunition safely.Move through the course of fire with all assigned equipment as quickly as possible. Scores will be a combination of targets hit, marathon target advancement, and time penalties for missed targets and overall time to complete the event.

STANDARDS:  The WTC O-course will start with the timed prusik climb on the south side of the rappel tower, and end upon the successful completion of the O-course which will be divided into 2 sides IOT create a competitive environment.

STANDARDS: Competitor teams must negotiate to one rendezvous point (RV) at a time, moving to as many RVs as possible within the allotted time.Score will be determined by the total cumulative straight-line distance traveled from all RV’s reached.Violation of the roads and trail policy will result in a distance penalty.

TASK: Run north along the Riverwalk to the northern Whitewater Express zip-line tower. Cross the Chattahoochee River utilizing zip-line. Move south along the riverwalk on the Alabama bank to the designated raft launch. Utilize rafts to paddle south along the river to Bulldog Boat Launch. Carry raft and all equipment across finish line.

CONDITIONS: During daylight hours, given a paved run route, zip-line, and raft; competitors will be in the BRC uniform minus PC and TAP, plus harness, PFD, and issued helmet.

STANDARD: Each team must complete the movement unassisted, within double arms reach of each other. Teams must remain on the designated route. Time will stop when the team crosses the finish line with all equipment. Team ranking will be based on time to complete the event.

STANDARDS: Complete each event in the prescribed sequence. Teams must remain within the prescribed area outlined by rope and chemical lights. Teams will be directed by event Cadre on when to move to each subsequent station throughout the duration of all Night Stakes events. Each event will be scored independently. Bypassing or failure to complete any station is grounds for being dropped from the competition.

The foot march must be completed as a team as quickly as possible without any outside physical or material help. The foot march will begin as a mass start with an air horn. Teams will move at their own pace and continue until they reach the finish line or receive additional guidance.

If competitors are aided in any way, accept or give anything to anyone during the foot march, or talk to anyone other than fellow competitors or the foot march cadre, they will be disqualified from the event. Failure to complete the foot march by the predetermined end time may result in termination from the competition.

The BRC packing list will be carried by each competitor at all times. Teams may be required to conduct a layout immediately upon completion of the foot march. 

TASK: Conduct an unknown distance road march. 

CONDITIONS: Executed during limited visibility, given an unknown distance course on improved and unimproved surfaces, and wearing the BRC Uniform, ruck sack with prescribed packing list, inert weapon, and headlamp. OCP tops will be rolled 2x to the outside. OCP Trousers will be un-bloused and rolled 2x to the outside. 

STANDARDS: Competitors must complete the unknown distance road march with all equipment while maintaining a 19:00 minute per mile or better pace. Teams that fail to maintain the prescribed pace, or better, will be removed from the course and competition. Teams must remain on the route. Team members must remain within double arm interval of each other at all times. Time stops when both members cross the finish line of the unknown distance road march.  Physical contact with other competitors, or attempting to hinder other competitors, is unauthorized. Teams will remain on the route at all times unless told by cadre to do otherwise. Teams will remain on the RIGHT side of the route at all times unless otherwise directed by cadre. Team ranking will be based on total time to complete the route.  The BRC packing list will be carried by each competitor at all times.

TASK: Conduct Buddy Team LFX.

CONDITIONS: Conducted during daylight hours, using an MCX Spear with a mountedoptic, 20 rounds of ammunition with 1x magazine, an M17, 10 rounds of 9mmammunition with 1 magazine. Competitors will be in the BRC uniform, with plate carrier, ACH, eye protection, gloves and ear protection (minus camelback).

STANDARDS: Competitors will bound forward from barrier to barrier, without by passing any covered positions between barriers, until they reach a designated LOA (Phase LineBlack). Simultaneously, Competitors will engage targets as they move forward and will only engage targets in their lane. Upon reaching Phase Line Black, Competitors will engage two static targets at 225m and 300m with the MCX Spear and then transition to a presented 75m static target where they will engage with the M17 only. Time will stop once the LOA is reached and the last engagement has been made, and competitors haveannounced “Black”. Scoring is based onoverall time.

TASK:  Conduct an M17 course of fire.  

CONDITIONSConducted during daylight hours, given an M17 pistol and 2x magazines totaling 17 rounds. Competitors will be in the BRC uniform with Helmet, Plate Carrier TAPS, eye protection, ear protection, and gloves (optional). 

STANDARDS Competitors will be issued an M17 and two magazines loaded with 8 and 9 rounds. Competitors will move to the start line and load their 8-round magazine. On the command of “Go” competitors will move through the course of fire, engaging targets from three firing stations and conducting a tactical reload. Time for each competitor will stop once they have fired their 15th round, the two additional rounds are to be used in the event of a malfunction. After completion of the event, the pistol will be cleared by each competitor’s grader, both competitors will move back across the finish line, and equipment will be placed back on the table. Time for each competitor will stop once they have completed the course of fire and penalties will be adjudicated for each miss. Team score will be a cumulative of the two competitors’ times with time added for each missed target engagement.

TASK: Engage multiple targets with a Sig Sauer M17 Pistol and a Benelli M4 Shotgun.

CONDITION: During daylight hours, as a buddy team in BRC uniform, helmet, body armor, gloves, eye protection, and ear protection. Each competitor is given 1x Sig Sauer M17 Pistol with a holster, 1x six round magazine, 1x ten round magazine, and 1x M4 Benelli Shotgun with five rounds at pre-designated firing points.

STANDARDS: Engage all targets with maximum accuracy. Time will start on the command of “GO”. Teams will fire all rounds at their pre-designated targets within their assigned lanes. Weapons will be cleared, on SAFE, and/or stored prior to moving between stations. Time will end once both competitors have cleared their weapons and holstered them. Unsafe acts, such as moving from a station without weapon on safe, moving from a station without having the weapon stored, or shooting outside SDZs, will result in disqualification. Rankings, missed targets and penalties will be time based.

TASK: Conduct an M240 Course of Fire.

CONDITIONS: Conducted during daylight hours, given an M240L, Trijicon Optic, and 150 rounds. Each team member will be wearing the BRC uniform with ACH, gloves, Plate Carrier, eye protection, and ear protection.

STANDARDS: Teams will have two minutes to familiarize themselves with their weapon systems on a zero target. Weapon systems will then be cleared and moved to the qualification lanes after familiarization. Each team member will have one minute to load, engage five targets with the weapon system, and clear and unload the weapon system. The second team member will act as a spotter/coach. Team members will then switch positions and the second team member will fire the same course of fire. Team ranking will be determined by a combination of both competitor’s total number of targets hit. The number of rounds remaining will be returned to the ammo point and will be used as the tiebreaker.

TASK: Cross a one rope bridge

CONDITIONS: In a field environment with-in a 50-foot crossing during daylight hours, in existing weather conditions

STANDARDS: Teams will be giving one opportunity to rig a rappel seat IAW TC 3-21.76 and cross the rope bridge using the rappel seat method with all equipment. Each competitor will have 90 sec to rig rappel seat. Time will stop at 90 sec. After team has been inspected they will be placed on the rope bridge. They will receive a countdown form three, two, one, go time will start when first competitor crosses the start point. Time will end when last competitor crosses end point on the far side of therope.

TASK: Conduct maneuver over urban terrain using a prescribed route and assigned teame quipment. Conduct an ammo resupply, eliminate any enemy threat encountered, and sprint tothis finish line.

CONDITIONS: Conducted during daylight hours, given a MOUT site, wearing the BRC uniform with: TAPs, ACH, eye protection, gloves, and ear protection. Each competitor will be provided asimulated rubber weapon for course movement and will use stationary weapons during courseof fire for UMT engagements.

STANDARDS: Teams will maneuver through the urban assault course as fast as possible while negotiating all obstacles and engaging designated targets. Teams will maintain their equipment throughout the entire course. All competitors will descend ropes in a controlled manner. Teams will be scored by overall time to complete the course. A time penalty of 5 minutes will be added to the overall time for each team member that fails to negotiate an obstacle. Cover and concealment will be used throughout the entire course, IMT will be used while bounding through open areas. A 2 Minute penalty will be added for each missed target inside building 5. Negligent discharge, flagging of competitors/graders/support personnel will result ina DQ from this event.

Teams will move to the staging area. Following commands from the loadmaster, teams will load the UH-60 and secure using safety lanyards already in the aircraft. Teams will display their secured safety lanyards to the loadmaster. At the LZ and when instructed by the loadmaster, teams will exit the aircraft. Upon all personnel exiting the aircraft, teams will have 1 minute to exit the LZ through the marked lane and move to the next event.

TASK: Conduct the Ranger Mile

CONDITIONS: During daylight hours, given a 1-mile route, appropriate equipment, and a 2-mile route, while wearing the BRC uniform with camelback and boots un-bloused.

STANDARDS: Competitors must complete the Ranger Mile with minimal rest. Both competitors must complete all of the Ranger Mile events. If one or both competitors fail to achieve the standard, a 3:00-minute time penalty will be incurred per failure. Teams will complete each event before moving to the next station with both competitors completing the exercise at the same time (observed by a grader). Each competitor must complete a 1-mile run, 6 dead hang chin ups, carry two 40lb kettlebells 50 meters down and back, Conduct IMTs every 10 meters for 50 meters down and back, and conduct a 180 LB SKED Drag 50 meters down and back in this order. All teams will start each event at the same time. After completing the first five events, teams will move to the 2-mile starting line to begin the run at the same time. The run time will end when both team members cross the finish line together within a double-arm interval. Scores will be determined by overall time. If a team receives a penalty for not meeting the requirements on the scoring scale, it will be added to their time after completion of the RPA 2.0.

Upon completion of the Opening Ceremony, Teams will be called to the start line over the PA system. Competitors will move to the start line through the roped off area. Once lined up, the Mass Start run will begin on the firing of the ceremonial pistol.

TASK: Conduct a 7-mile run as a team with weighted vest and a 60lb sandbag. 

CONDITIONS: Executed during limited visibility, given a course on an improvedsurface, and wearing the BRC Uniform, with optional headlamp.  Trousers will be un-bloused and rolled 2x to the outside. Weighted vest will be worn over tan t-shirt. 

STANDARDS: Competitors must complete the 7-mile distance weighted vest run with all equipment. Teams will receive 1x 60lb sandbag per team at the halfway point of 3.5 miles. Teams must remain on the marked route and must always remain within double arm interval of each other while staying on the right side of the road.Time stops when both team members cross the finish line of the weighted vest runwith the 60lb sandbag. Physical contact with other competitors or attempting to hinder other competitors is unauthorized and will result in a severe penalty. Any tampering with the vest or sandbag will result with a disqualification. Team ranking will be based on the order in which teams cross the finish line. Each team must cross the finish line together in order to successfully complete the event.

Opening Ceremony

SPECTATORS ALLOWED.

2024 Best Ranger Competition Opening Ceremony begins at 6:00 AM on 12 April 2024. We encourage anyone attending the start of the competition to arrive at 5:00 AM, due to traffic and parking challenges. Some roads will be blocked off and spectators that arrive after 5:00 AM might experience problems and delays. All competitors and teams will be announced and there will be photo opportunities. The event will officially start with a Mass Run at the firing of our ceremonial starting pistols, beginning the three days of one of the world’s toughest competitions.
